A retired Assistant Harbourmaster, a Master Mariner, I have been boating since aged 11. After a childhood in Hamble, I returned to Jersey in 1978. I have 50 years’ commercial maritime experience including 20 years as Deck and Navigating Officer with Harrison Line of Liverpool and 10 years as Crew / Helmsman with the ‘Hamble Rescue’ independent IRB. Moving ‘Ashore’ in 1988 I worked at the Harbour Office / Jersey Coastguard for 26 years and was SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC) for over 600 local incidents. I also regularly represented Jersey at both the UKSAR Committee and AFATG (Anglo French Accident Technical Group) Coastguard meetings. Retirement has allowed more time to volunteer for the RNLI, bringing many years professional maritime experience to the Operations Team, dealing with administration work and assisting crew training. I have held a DLA role with St Helier Lifeboat Station since 1988.
